Current Pottery work: The pottery is reduction fired stoneware. It includes domestic ware such as bowls, platters, pitchers and some one-off pieces. Most of the pottery is thrown on the wheel, whilst some pieces are hand built.
Various mixtures of stoneware clays are used, some light burning and some with an iron content present in the clay, producing warm tones.
The glazes are all made up by Richard to produce desired affects. Currently he is interested in the colours achieved by the reaction caused by overlapping 3 or 4 glazes. Richard likes the glazes to have depth and the appearance of translucency.
